Bach vs. Spock
Oh boy! it's time to play the rhyme game! I really must give credit to The Hangdowns, as the theme for this smackdown comes straight from one of their songs (Bach on Spock). Let's just pretend for a second that you have some kind of crazy time machine and you could go to the past or the future at will (crapping all over the space-time continuum as you see fit). The big question is, who would YOU do? SciFi icon Mr. Spock, or eighteenth century composer J.S. Bach?
Bach
Eighteenth century German composer Johann Sebastian Bach is well known for his sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra, and solo instruments and is often credited with bringing the Baroque period to its ultimate maturity.
Pros:
-Robust contrapuntal technique
-An unrivalled control of harmonic and motivic organization
-Adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad
Cons:
-You probably don't have any clue (or care) what any of that means
-Those old-timey portraits always make everyone look really weird and angry
-He comes from a different time, there were a lot more plagues back then...you might have to get yourself checked...
Spock
Mr. Spock is the only alien in the permanent crew of the USS Enterprise, under the command of Captain James T. Kirk. Being half Human and half Vulcan, Spock is in a constant personal struggle with his 2 halves; the logical Vulcan vs. the emotional Human. This struggle is the main focus of his character, and creates some very evocative (or provocative?) drama.
Pros:
-ZOMG! Leonard Nimoy!
-Hangs out with Capt. Kirk, which is awesome
-Brings a whole new dimension to "the shocker"
Cons:
-Brings a whole new dimension to "the shocker"
