Located in Markham, Ontario, Canada, ATI Technologies was founded in 1985, producing integrated graphics cards for large PC manufacturers like IBM and Commodore. By 1987, ATI had grown into a large independent graphics card retailer and by 1991, they were producing high end hardware that could process graphics without the help of the CPU. In 2006, ATI was acquired by AMD, yet they still keep the ATI branding for their video hardware. ATI/AMD currently co-dominates the video hardware market with competitor Nvidia, producing their Radeon video card series for PCs (competing with Nvidia's GeForce series cards). They have also worked with both Nintendo and Microsoft to produce hardware for their respective consoles (Wii/Gamecube, Xbox360).
